Dear Visitation Academy Families,
I am excited to be returning to Visitation Academy for the 2024-2025 school year as the Music Teacher. As a local teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching vocal and instrumental instruction, as well as choir and musical theater direction, I welcome and encourage musicians of all ages and abilities. Everyone can appreciate music!
The purpose of music is to express and elicit emotion. I strive to share my love of music with all students and encourage them to find ways to incorporate music into their own lives in a meaningful and powerful way.
Lessons and experiences are designed to foster a love of music and develop students’ musical and performance skills. Our youngest musicians will learn the basics of singing and vocal technique, creative movement, rhythm, and vocal and instrumental improvisation. Our elementary musicians expand on early concepts and learn about tone, world instruments, musical and lyrical analysis, ear training, and harmony. We also explore the mechanics of music by learning music theory basics and introducing music history. Our older musicians continue to build on these skills and also think critically about composing, analyzing, performing, and relating music to other subjects through collaborative projects. Middle school musicians will experience an immersive look at music history and composers.
Visitation Voices is an extracurricular school choir for 4th through 8th graders. Students will meet afterschool weekly to develop and nurture singing and performance techniques, practice healthy vocal exercises to improve blending, balance, and tone, and develop musicianship. Our liturgies are enhanced through music and we look forward to Visitation Voices helping us praise God through music at most of our school liturgies.
Finally, I am excited to collaborate with a creative team to bring a middle school spring musical to Visitation Academy. More details will be shared as the school year gets underway!
Feel free to reach out via email at any time. Wishing all of you a wonderful year!
Musically yours,
Alison Chiappetta
