W E L C O M E to Ms. Serra's 1st Grade
I have been teaching at Visitation Academy for the past 15 years
I look forward to a fun filled learning experience with your children. Keep in mind that First grade is a milestone and a key grade. It is an introduction to formal academic studies and a life-long journey of learning .
As a teacher my goals are:
-to encourage children to express themselves freely and to be risk takers.
-to build self esteem and an atmosphere for learning in a non-threatening environment.
To teach childern:
-in religion that God loves them and that as Christians they are members of God’s family.
-to speak and eventually to write in complete sentences using basic spelling words of mostly one syllable.
-to read stories with repetitive vocabulary and gradually move to stories with increased and varied vocabulary.
-to understand basic numbers and place value in mathematics. Also to learn basic addition, subtraction, money, time and measurement.
-to appreciate themselves as members of a diverse community with common needs and wants.
-to observe the world of living things and how things move in science by using their 5 senses.
Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. You can send a note with your child or email me at [email protected] .
