The eighth grade enjoyed a day at Project Oceanology at the Univ. of Conn on Avery Point in Groton Ct. We enjoyed a 2.5 hr. cruise on the Enviro-lab II, a 55" research vessel. While on board the students worked with two marine scientists, pulled in at trawl net filled with a variety of marine life; flounder, plankton, squid, crabs, silver dollar fish, and eatable sea lettuce. Yes we did eat the sea lettuce (green seaweed). Also, the students were able to perform a variety of experiments that included the testing of the water, water depth, clarity, acidity; and of course testing for bacteria in the of mud brought up from the bottom. They also learned about water pollution too. A fun day was had by all.
