My name is Denise Caulfield, and I am a fourth grade teacher here at Visitation Academy. I am also the Math teacher for all 4th and 5th grade classes.
Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best. "Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." This is what I strive for in my teaching.
Your child will go through many developmental changes while in fourth grade, physically, intellectually, and socially. They are truly a work in progress and, as their teacher, I will hold them to high expectations so that they can realize their true potential.
The fourth grade curriculum is challenging, especially at first as the students get used to changing classes, and the subjects become more complicated. I invite students to expand their academic limits in order to grow and learn through critical thinking and problem solving, and become more independent thinkers. I encourage students to take risks, make mistakes, and ask questions. My ultimate goal is to instill the love of learning in each child.
Each child learns on a different level. For this reason, I use a number of different approaches to teaching in an effort to reach each child. My goal is to educate your child to the best of his or her ability, both academically and socially. This year, I will be having weekly centers in Math to reinforce learning through hands on activities.
The best way to get in touch with me is through the school email. I check it every morning before shool, and after school. You may also send a note into school. If you need to reach me during school hours, please call and leave a message with the school office.
Homework is assigned on most nights, Please check your child's homework planner each night so you will be in touch with what he/she is learning on a daily basis. Check out the Goals tab for updates on what your child is learning, lists of tests for the week, and project assignment guidelines.
I look forward to working with you to best educate your child. We do our best, and let God do the rest.
I am available for extra help on Monday afternoons for 4th grade Math from 3:15 - 3:30 pm, and Wednesday morning for 5th grade Math from 8:00-8:15 am in the classroom. Please email me if your child will be attending one of these times, or if our child needs help with any other subjects.
